29 | theTYPEAhippie Podcast | ChiCast: Conversation on the War on Drugs and Public Health (Molly Welch-Marahar)
I met Molly Welch-Marahar working on another project and I was fascinated and we had such a great conversation and determined that we had a lot in common.
Molly's a person in long-term recovery from intravenous heroin and cocaine addiction. She has been homeless, in jail and hospitalized because of her disease, and these experiences have instilled in her a passion to advocate with and for others like her, most of whom don’t have access to adequate long-term, abstinence-based treatment. She is now a mother, a partner, a daughter, a friend and a mentor. Molly is also a graduate student at the University of Michigan’s Ford School of Public Policy where she is pursuing a career in advocacy and scholarship. Molly is currently employed as a Recovery Support Specialist for Dawn Farm, a treatment center for those suffering from alcoholism and addiction, where she can stay close to people like her. Molly’s life mission is to work to liberate addicted people from a cycle of marginalization perpetuated by the political economy of pharmaceuticals.
